Mangalam Bhagwan Vishnu Mantra – Lyrics, Meaning and Benefits

Mantra meaning – „All auspiciousness to Lord Vishnu.
All auspiciousness to One who has Garuda as His flag.
All auspiciousness to One who has eyes like the lotus flowers.
And auspiciousness to Hari.”

Mangalam Bhagwan Vishnu mantra lyrics:

„Mangalam Bhagwan Vishnu.
Mangalam Garuda Dhwaja.
Mangalam Pundareekaksham.
Mangalaya Tano Hari.”

Benefits of reciting the mantra

This chant is a sacred Sanskrit mantra dedicated to Supreme Lord Vishnu and is recited for the auspiciousness in Hindu tradition. Furthermore, by using this mantra you ask Lord Vishnu for protection.

Lord Vishnu is considered the creator of the world in the Hindu mythology. Furthermore, He represents sattva-guna by which everything is sustained. He is also known as Narayana (which means resting place, the shelter, or ultimate goal of all living beings), Vasudeva, Jagannath, Hari, and Vithoba. In addition, He is referred to as the Brahman, the one who exists without existence.

He is the 2nd god in the Hindu Trimurti, which consists of 3 Supreme Gods who are responsible for the creation, upkeep, and destruction of the universe. Lord Brahma (the creator of the universe) and Lord Shiva (the destroyer) are the other two gods. They were present before the creation was made and they will be present after the creation gets destroyed. They were not born as they are not normal living beings.

He lives in Param Padam, a higher plane of existence, also known as the supreme abode. In this place, souls who attain nirvana spend eternity living in supreme bliss. His most notable avatars are Lord Krishna and Lord Rama. He was married to Saraswati (the Hindu goddess of wisdom), Lakshmi (the Hindu goddess of good fortune and prosperity), and Ganga (the Hindu goddess who is the personification of the River Ganges).

He is usually portrayed with blue color and has four arms. In each arm, He holds an emblem of his divinity: the discus, conch, lotus, and club. Moreover, He is depicted in the yogic sleep called yoga-nidra. His vehicle is Garuda, the swift-flying bird that can spread the Vedic knowledge and wisdom with great courage.

Om Shanti Shanti Shantihi mantra

The Sanskrit word ”Shanti” literally translates as ”’peace”’ and is the word that describes everything we can touch, see, deduce, or feel. Shanti represents the entire endless cycle of existence – samsara, a mental as well as physical realm.

Furthermore, Shanti mantras are actually chants for Peace and are found in the Upanishads. In Hindu tradition, Shanti mantras are practiced in religious discourses and rituals.

By reciting the word Shanti for 3 times in a row, the practitioner seeks to attain peace of mind, peace of body, and inner peace. According to the Buddhist tradition, saying Shanti Shanti Shanti symbolizes peace in speech, body, and mind.

Furthermore, meditation is being recommended by health care specialists everywhere to help the practitioner in multiple problems, such as – anxiety, stress relief, eating disorders, depression, panic attacks, back problems, low confidence, and even different types of addictions. In other words, the practice of meditation helps to improve mental and physical health.

You can also use a mantra in a meditation. Just follow these easy steps:

  • stretch for 3 minutes before you start the meditation. It will help you relax and be more comfortable while you are practicing.
  • sit in a comfortable position with your back straight (preferrable easy pose for beginners), your chin turned in a little towards your chest, and the crown of your head ”pulled upwards.”
  • choosing the same place for this relaxation method has been proven to be successful in making a habit from this activity faster.
  • practice for 3 minutes some breathing exercise to relax and focus the mind.
  • start to recite the mantra for 108 times, in your mind or in a whisper.
  • during the mantra meditation, whenever you drift away from the recitation of your chosen mantra to other thoughts (also known as mind-wandering), just gently guide your awareness back to the practice.
