Hair Loss (Alopecia) And Dandruff – Spiritual Causes & Meaning

Hair Loss (Alopecia) And Dandruff - Spiritual Causes & Meaning

Most people lose about 50 to 100 head hairs every day. However, these lost hairs are replaced; they usually grow back in the same follicle on the head. Therefore, this amount of hair loss is no cause for worry since it’s totally normal. The problems occur when the lost hairs are not replaced.

Dandruff is a condition of the scalp which causes flakes of skin to appear. This condition affects not just the scalp, but also the eyebrows, ears, beard, sides of the nose, and less commonly the central part of the chest.

It typically starts between the ages of 10 and 20 and affects an estimated 40 percent of individuals over the age of 30. This condition may worsen during the winter and fall because indoor heating can contribute to dry skin.

Causes Of Hair Loss

Stress

A stressful event can trigger hair loss and hair production is being suspended for a period of time. According to research, people who lost a spouse to divorce or death had a higher risk of experiencing hair loss. Best methods to reduce your stress levels include – mindfulness meditation, healthy sleeping patterns, regular physical exercise, and spending time in nature.

Genetic

There is a chance you are genetically predisposed to hair thinning, that means you may see a progressive, gradual reduction in hair volume. This trait is usually found in men, however, women with this trait tend to develop thinning at the hairline behind the bangs.

Certain Medications

Medications can cause chronic shedding. The most notorious for doing so are blood pressure drugs (renin inhibitors, calcium channel blockers, angiotensin II receptor blockers, or thiazide diuretics), nevertheless, some HIV medications (raltegravir, elvitegravir, dolutegravir) and antidepressants may do it as well.

In addition, chemotherapy treatments (cyclophosphamide, mechlorethamine, melphalan, chlorambucil, and ifosfamide) can cause hair loss, plus, radiotherapy (a healthcare specialist uses invisible radioactive particles to kill cancer cells) for cancer can make hair fall out in the part of the body where the radiation is directed.

Hair-Dulling Disorder

This condition is also referred as trichotillomania and it causes individuals to have an irresistible urge to pull out their hair, whether it’s from the eyebrows, the scalp, or other areas of the body.

Rough Handling

Years of pulling the hair too tight in a ponytail or bun or wearing it in braids or cornrows can put unnecessary stress on the hair and, ultimately, cause a type of hair loss known as traction alopecia.

Hormone Imbalance

Too little thyroid hormone (when the thyroid gland fails to produce enough hormones) or too much thyroid hormone (a condition in which the thyroid gland produces too much of the hormone thyroxine) may both trigger hair loss.

Chemicals

Try to avoid shampoos containing sodium chloride since they can cause a dry and itchy scalp. Moreover, avoid shampoos with ammonium lauryl sulfate (ALS) and sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) because they can irritate the scalp and damage hair follicles.

Dihydrotestosterone

This hormone is formed through a small portion of testosterone and converted into this stronger androgen which can result in an enlarged prostate as well as hair loss.

Causes Of Dandruff

Pinpointing the exact cause of this condition can be difficult, however, here are a few common causes:

  • psoriasis – a long-term skin condition which causes flaky, red, crusty patches of skin covered with silvery scales;
  • different personal care products may lead to contact dermatitis, a condition that makes your scalp itchy and red;
  • having a yeast that lives on all of our scalps, called Malassezia. It survives by consuming the natural oils produced by our scalps and causes excess skin cell growth;
  • not shampooing sufficient may cause skin cells to accumulate and create itching and flakes;
  • having a condition also known as seborrheic dermatitis, a chronic skin condition with symptoms including a red, scaling rash on the face, scalp, torso, and ears.

Some factors which can increase the risk of dandruff may include:

  • emotional stress;
  • heredity;
  • weather changes;
  • lack of some nutrients, such as essential fatty acids and B-complex vitamins;
  • having a diet rich in sodium (table salt) and animal products;
  • excess alcoholic beverages consumption;
  • hormonal changes and imbalances.

Spiritual Meaning And Causes Of Hair Loss

Your hair is a symbol of freedom and power. In the old days, long hair was a sign of civic freedom, and short hair meant, most of the time, that the person had no more power, freedom, and dignity.

If you experience hair problems, ask yourself what you really want to do in relation to what others expect from you. If you find the courage to be honest with yourself, you will be able to regain the joy of living and, at the same time, give a sense to freedom and power – just like your own hair. Developing this line of thought can give you an interpretation of your hair problems.

Spiritual Meaning And Causes Of Dandruff

Dandruff occurs as a result of an inner conflict with yourself and your social role. You live under the impression that you are not able to shine, to stand out in the world (a common feeling among most hair related disorders).
